Methylation Genetic Test

£310.00

The Methylation Genetic Test examines genetic variations (SNPs) that may influence methylation, an essential biochemical process involved in DNA synthesis and repair, folate and vitamin B12 metabolism, energy production, and neurotransmitter and hormone regulation. By identifying variations in genes associated with these pathways, the test provides information about individual genetic predispositions that can help inform personalised nutritional recommendations alongside health history and other relevant investigations.

What this test measures

What does the Methylation Genetic Test measure?

It reads the variants in the genes that run your methylation cycle and the pathways that hang off it, detoxification, folate and B12 use, homocysteine clearance, neurotransmitter and hormone balance, and inflammation, so you know where your biochemistry is predisposed to run slowly and which nutrients it depends on.

Detoxification

Variants in the pathways your liver uses to clear toxins, hormones and medications.

Inflammation

Variants associated with immune activity and a tendency to chronic inflammation.

Methylation pathway SNPs

The variants that affect how well you recycle folate and B12 and keep the methylation cycle turning.

Mood, stress & hormones

Variants linked to neurotransmitter breakdown, the stress response and oestrogen clearance.

Nutrient metabolism

How your genes affect the use of folate, B vitamins and other co-factors, and which forms suit you.

Is this test right for me?

Who is the Methylation Genetic Test for?

For symptoms that seem to run in the family, for people who react badly to supplements or medication, and for anyone planning a pregnancy or managing a long-term condition who wants their nutrition matched to their genes.

A family history of heart disease or stroke

Often linked to: homocysteine-related variants.

This test measures: the methylation cycle genes linked to homocysteine.

Brain fog & poor concentration

Often linked to: low methylation capacity affecting neurotransmitters and energy.

This test measures: the methylation and neurotransmitter variants together.

Chronic inflammation or autoimmunity in the family

Often linked to: inherited variants associated with immune activity.

This test measures: the inflammation-related variants.

Fatigue & low energy

Often linked to: slow methylation limiting energy production and B-vitamin use.

This test measures: the methylation pathway variants and nutrient-metabolism genes.

Headaches & migraines

Often linked to: variants affecting neurotransmitter breakdown and detoxification.

This test measures: the neurotransmitter and detox variants.

Histamine or chemical sensitivities

Often linked to: slow clearance pathways.

This test measures: the detoxification and methylation variants.

Hormone imbalance or oestrogen dominance

Often linked to: slow clearance of oestrogen through methylation.

This test measures: the detoxification and hormone-clearance variants.

Low mood or anxiety

Often linked to: variants in the genes that make and break down neurotransmitters.

This test measures: the neurotransmitter and stress-response variants.

Planning a pregnancy

Often linked to: folate metabolism variants that affect how well dietary folate is used.

This test measures: the folate pathway variants.

Poor tolerance of alcohol, caffeine or medication

Often linked to: slow detoxification pathways.

This test measures: the detoxification variants.

Raised homocysteine

Often linked to: variants that slow the conversion of homocysteine back to methionine.

This test measures: the methylation cycle variants involved in homocysteine clearance.

Reacting badly to supplements

Often linked to: a methylation profile that does not suit the form of B vitamins you are taking.

This test measures: the folate and B12 pathway variants that decide which forms you can use.

How do I interpret my results?

Making sense of a lab report is the most important part of testing. Once your results are ready, your lab report is uploaded to your secure Client Folder. From there, you choose your level of support from our UK-registered nutritional therapist (optional, priced separately): a Lab Findings Review or a Comprehensive Consultation.

What do our customers say?

5.0from 20 verified clinic reviews

“Alongside the GI Map Stool test that I did, this Nutreval test was the perfect combination as it gave Me and Carmen the full picture with regards to what is going on not only in my gut/microbiome but also all other areas of my organs/body and all levels of my vitamins, minerals, amino acids, mehlyation etc etc.”

IshVerified customerReview of the NutrEval Test

Easy at home, with a clear explanation after

The test is really easy to do from home and the results come back within weeks, followed by a clear explanation of the results from Carmen and the next steps required.

AdamVerified customerReview of the Histamine Intolerance Test

Better sleep and energy three months on

I was recommended this test by Carmen after explaining my symptoms of fatigue, low energy and overall problems with sleep during our first call. Since taking the test and going over the results together, I've been following her personalised plan to improve the balance of my hormones, using a combination of food, supplements and lifestyle adjustments. Three months in, and I have seen a noticeable improvement in my sleep and my energy levels already.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do the Methylation Genetic Test at home in the UK?

Yes. It is an at-home test: you order online, the kit comes to your door by Royal Mail, you collect at home and the prepaid return takes it to the lab. No GP referral or clinic visit is needed. We send kits to any UK address, and international delivery is priced at checkout.

What is the difference between the methylation genetic test and the NutrEval?

Genes are the blueprint; the NutrEval is the reading of what is happening now. This test tells you which methylation and detox pathways you are predisposed to run slowly, and never changes. The NutrEval measures your current nutrient status, organic acids and oxidative stress, including functional B12 and folate markers. Start here if the question is inherited tendency or which nutrient forms suit you; start with the NutrEval if the question is what your body is short of today. Together they show the tendency and the result.

Is a methylation test worth it, or can I just take methylated B vitamins?

Taking methylated B vitamins blind suits some people and makes others feel worse. The test shows which variants you carry, so support can be matched to them: the right form and dose of folate and B12, whether to support the detox pathways, and what to avoid. Because genes do not change, it is a one-off test whose result stays useful for every future decision.

How accurate is the Methylation Genetic Test?

The test reads your DNA from a cheek swab and reports the specific variants you carry in the methylation pathway and related genes. A genetic result is a fixed fact rather than a snapshot, so it does not need repeating. What it cannot tell you is how strongly a variant is expressing right now, which is why a practitioner reads it alongside your symptoms and, where useful, a functional test such as the NutrEval.

Can I get the Methylation Genetic Test on the NHS?

No. The NHS offers genetic testing for specific inherited conditions, not nutritional methylation panels. This is a private test ordered through a clinic. The price covers the kit, the lab analysis and your report; having the report interpreted is a separate, optional consultation.

When should I collect my sample?

Any time. Do not eat, drink, smoke, brush your teeth or use mouthwash for at least an hour before the swab, rub it firmly inside your cheek for the time the instructions give, let it air-dry and seal it in the pack. Post it back with the prepaid return. Because the result is genetic, nothing you eat or take beforehand affects it.

Can someone help me interpret my results, even if I tested elsewhere?

Yes. Book a Lab Findings Review with us and a registered nutritional therapist will take you through every marker against your symptoms and history, whether you tested with us or elsewhere; bring your report to the session. If you then want a personalised plan, that is the Comprehensive Consultation.
