Frequently Asked Questions

What can a nutritionist or nutritional therapist help with?

A nutritional therapist finds what is driving your symptoms and builds a personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan around it. At Nutrition Diets Clinic we support eight areas: gut health, skin conditions, hormonal imbalances, food allergies and intolerances, fertility, metabolic issues, immune system support and paediatric nutrition. If what you are dealing with is not listed, ask on the free Discovery Call.

What is functional medicine, and how does it work with nutritional therapy?

Functional medicine looks for the underlying causes of symptoms, and at how systems such as digestion, hormones and immunity affect each other, rather than at each symptom on its own. A nutritional therapist uses that approach: a detailed history, a diet and lifestyle review and, where useful, functional testing, then a personalised plan that is reviewed at follow-ups.

Do I need a GP referral or a diagnosis to see a nutritional therapist in the UK?

No. You can book a free Discovery Call or a consultation directly. Nutritional therapists do not diagnose or treat medical conditions, and we work alongside your GP rather than instead of one. If you have symptoms such as blood in your stool or unexplained weight loss, see your GP first.

Can I see a nutritionist online, from anywhere in the UK?

Yes. The clinic is fully online: the Discovery Call and every consultation are by video call with a CNHC-registered nutritional therapist, so you can work with us from anywhere in the UK, or from abroad. Most tests are home collection kits sent by post; the NutrEval also needs a blood draw by a phlebotomist, which we can help you book near you or at home.

How much does a nutritional therapist cost in the UK?

At Nutrition Diets Clinic the 15-minute Discovery Call is free. A Comprehensive Consultation is £180 for 60 minutes, follow-ups are £90 for 30 minutes or £140 for 60 minutes, and a Lab Findings Review, to go through test results with you, is £99 for 45 minutes. Health tests are separate and range from £75 to £695.

What is the difference between a nutritional therapist and a dietitian?

Dietitian is a protected title for practitioners regulated by the HCPC, who often work in the NHS with diagnosed conditions. A registered nutritional therapist, registered with the CNHC, looks for what is driving your symptoms through diet, lifestyle and, where useful, testing. Our practitioner is a registered nutritional therapist, not a dietitian, and works alongside your GP.

Do I need a health test, and can I do it at home?

Not always. Some people start with a consultation and add a test only if it would change the plan; others prefer to test first and build the consultation around the results. Most of our tests are at-home kits, from stool and breath tests to finger-prick blood, cheek swab, urine and saliva samples, and they range from £75 to £695. The free Discovery Call helps you decide.
