What does the Vitamin D test measure?
It measures 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the storage form that reflects your true status, and reports D3 (from sunlight, animal foods and most supplements) and D2 (from plant foods and some prescriptions) separately as well as the total, so you can see both your level and where it is coming from.
Is your supplement working?
Seeing D2 and D3 separately shows whether what you take is reaching your blood at a useful level.
Total vitamin D
Your overall 25-hydroxyvitamin D, read against the deficient, suboptimal and optimal ranges.
Vitamin D2
Ergocalciferol, from mushrooms and fortified plant foods, and the form in some prescription vitamin D.
Vitamin D3
Cholecalciferol, made in your skin from sunlight and found in animal foods and most supplements.

What do our customers say?
“I was recommended this test by Carmen after explaining my symptoms of fatigue, low energy and overall problems with sleep during our first call. Since taking the test and going over the results together, I've been following her personalised plan to improve the balance of my hormones, using a combination of food, supplements and lifestyle adjustments. Three months in, and I have seen a noticeable improvement in my sleep and my energy levels already.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I do the Vitamin D test at home in the UK?
Yes. It is an at-home test: you order online, the kit comes to your door by DHL, you collect at home and the prepaid DHL return takes it to the lab. No GP referral or clinic visit is needed. We send kits to any UK address, and international delivery is priced at checkout.
Is a vitamin D test worth it, or should I just take a supplement?
Taking a supplement without testing means guessing the dose. Too little and a deficiency stays; too much over months is not harmless either. One test tells you where you start, so the dose can be set properly, and a repeat after three months shows whether it has worked. It is also the only way to tell a vitamin D problem from the many other causes of tiredness.
How accurate is the Vitamin D test?
The test measures 25-hydroxyvitamin D in a dried blood spot, the form that reflects your stores over the previous weeks and the measure used clinically to define deficiency, and reports D2 and D3 separately as well as the total. Finger-prick dried blood spot testing for vitamin D is well established. Like any lab test, the result is a snapshot of recent weeks, and it moves with the seasons, which is why the date matters when a practitioner reads it.
Can I get the Vitamin D test on the NHS?
Sometimes. A GP can test vitamin D when there is a clinical reason, such as bone pain or a condition that affects absorption, but routine checks and supplement monitoring are usually not offered. This is a private test, done at home and ordered through a clinic. The price covers the kit, the lab analysis and your lab report; having the result interpreted is a separate, optional consultation.
When should I collect my sample?
Any morning. If you take a vitamin D supplement, keep taking it as normal unless your practitioner says otherwise, so the result shows your real status; if you are checking whether a supplement is working, test about three months after starting it. Warm hands, prick the side of a fingertip with the lancet in the kit, fill the spots on the collection card, let it dry fully, then book the DHL collection. Full instructions are in the kit.
Can someone help me interpret my results, even if I tested elsewhere?
Yes. Book a Lab Findings Review with us and a registered nutritional therapist will take you through every marker against your symptoms and history, whether you tested with us or elsewhere; bring your report to the session. If you then want a personalised plan, that is the Comprehensive Consultation.
